Sompo Group (SMPNY) is taking its technology infrastructure global with a major cloud migration deal. The Japanese insurance giant announced Tuesday it's accelerating its adoption of Guidewire Software's (GWRE) Cloud Platform, a move that extends a partnership dating back over a decade and signals Sompo's commitment to modernizing operations across its international footprint.

Moving Operations to the Cloud
The agreement gives Sompo's regional entities the green light to migrate existing Guidewire applications from legacy on-premises systems to the cloud while deploying fresh solutions directly on the platform. Think of it as upgrading from managing your own server room to letting someone else handle the infrastructure while you focus on the business.
The rollout starts with Sompo's global commercial operations, including moving ClaimCenter and PolicyCenter to the cloud. There's also an expanded deployment happening at Sompo Direct Insurance in Japan, which is getting a full suite of new tools.
Daniel Englberger, Chief Operating Officer for Sompo's international property and casualty business, emphasized the trust factor: "Guidewire has been a trusted partner throughout our 12-year relationship… We are confident in the Guidewire product roadmap and look forward to working together on this transformation."
Japan Gets the Full Treatment
Sompo Direct in Japan is going all-in, selecting PolicyCenter, BillingCenter, Jutro Digital Platform, and Data Studio as core systems for its automobile, homeowner, and earthquake insurance lines. Katsuyuki Tajiri of Sompo Holdings noted the platform "will improve operational efficiency, strengthen data analytics, and support sound decision-making."
Guidewire CEO Mike Rosenbaum said his company will support Sompo's growth by delivering "a reliable technology foundation across core systems, data, digital engagement, and AI."
Guidewire shares gained 1.68% to $124.34 in premarket trading Wednesday.
