So much for burying the hatchet. President Donald Trump went after comedian Bill Maher over the weekend, turning what seemed like a brief detente into another public spat on Truth Social.

From "Nice Guy" To Target In Record Time
Trump didn't hold back in his Truth Social post Saturday, calling Maher "a j**k" and "very boring, ANTI TRUMP." This marks quite the shift from earlier comments when Trump described the comedian as "a nice guy." What changed? Maher's been back to his old routine of criticizing the Trump administration, and apparently that didn't sit well.
The president shared some colorful details about their White House dinner, claiming Maher was "extremely nervous" and had "ZERO confidence in himself." According to Trump's account, Maher even wanted to come back for a White House Christmas party but never showed up. Trump wrapped up his post with the classic accusation that Maher suffers from "Trump Derangement Syndrome."
The Brief Thaw That Wasn't
Here's the interesting part: Maher, who's been criticizing Trump for years, actually had some nice things to say after their meeting last year. The late-night host called Trump "gracious and measured" following their sit-down. But that olive branch didn't last long.
Maher's been hitting the administration hard again, recently calling the White House "f—ing hypocrites" over a since-deleted video that depicted former President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama as apes. Back in 2023, Maher also predicted Trump could win the presidency despite facing multiple prosecutions—a prediction that turned out prescient.
Trump's Running Battle With Hollywood
This latest dustup is hardly unusual for Trump, whose relationship with the entertainment world has been rocky to say the least. The president has publicly gone after multiple late-night hosts including Seth Meyers, Jimmy Kimmel, and Jimmy Fallon, demanding they be fired and declaring their shows ratings disasters.
Most recently, Trump drew widespread criticism for attacking filmmaker Rob Reiner following his death, also throwing out the "Trump Derangement Syndrome" accusation. The pattern suggests that anyone in entertainment who criticizes the president should probably expect a Truth Social post in response.
