Infosys Ltd. (INFY) announced Thursday it's deepening its strategic alliance with ExxonMobil Corp. (XOM) to tackle one of artificial intelligence's least glamorous but most critical problems: how to keep data centers from overheating as AI workloads explode.
The partnership will develop and deploy ExxonMobil Data Center Immersion Fluids, specialized cooling technology designed to boost energy efficiency and squeeze more computing power out of existing data center infrastructure. It's part of Infosys' broader push into energy innovation and decarbonization as the demand for high-performance digital infrastructure accelerates faster than anyone anticipated.
When Oil Expertise Meets AI Infrastructure
Here's where it gets interesting. The collaboration merges ExxonMobil's thermal management capabilities with Infosys Topaz, the company's generative AI-driven services platform, and Infosys Cobalt, its enterprise cloud suite. The goal is creating high-efficiency cooling systems that can handle the intense heat generated by artificial intelligence and High-Performance Computing workloads.
Infosys Topaz will enable real-time optimization of cooling operations, including predictive maintenance, improved energy efficiency, and scalable infrastructure performance. Meanwhile, Infosys Cobalt provides the secure cloud foundation needed to deploy these systems across data center and enterprise environments. Think of it as combining ExxonMobil's knowledge of managing extreme thermal conditions with Infosys' ability to make systems smarter through AI.
Who Needs This Technology
Infosys said the collaboration targets scalable solutions for hyperscalers, global enterprises, and public sector organizations. The focus spans multiple industries including financial services, telecommunications, manufacturing, energy, and government operations. Basically, anyone running serious computing infrastructure who's worried about their electricity bill and carbon footprint.
What the Executives Are Saying
Ashiss Kumar Dash, EVP and Global Head of Services, Utilities, Resources, Energy and Enterprise Sustainability at Infosys, framed this as a pivotal moment: "Our expanded collaboration with ExxonMobil marks a pivotal step in scaling next-generation solutions. By leveraging Infosys Topaz for real-time AI-driven optimization and Infosys Cobalt for secure, scalable cloud deployment with ExxonMobil's advanced energy expertise, we are addressing the urgent need for more efficient high-performance digital infrastructure. This collaboration has the potential to deliver measurable outcomes by reducing data center energy costs and carbon emissions, while empowering enterprises to scale responsibly and meet the demands of an AI-powered future."
Alistair Westwood, Global Marketing Manager at ExxonMobil Product Solutions Company, emphasized the natural fit: "This collaboration reflects our commitment to innovation by allowing us to apply our energy and thermal management expertise to the evolving landscape of digital infrastructure. Infosys' suite of AI and digital services is enabling us to pilot and adopt infrastructure that is smarter, efficient, and more resilient."
Price Action: Infosys shares were down 2.86% at $15.31 during premarket trading on Thursday, hitting a new 52-week low. ExxonMobil shares were up 0.05% at $154.60.
