When billionaires fight on social media, the rest of us grab popcorn. This week's entertainment: Tesla Inc. (TSLA) CEO Elon Musk and legendary venture capitalist Vinod Khosla going at each other's throats on X.
The clash started when Khosla accused Musk of promoting racism and made a rather bold recruitment pitch, urging employees at Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI to jump ship and join companies in Khosla Ventures' portfolio instead. What prompted this callout? A September post from Musk discussing the declining percentage of white people in the global population. According to Khosla, Musk views racism as a "great and desirable paradigm."
Musk didn't take this lying down. He fired back on Wednesday with personal attacks, including dredging up Khosla's lengthy legal battle over restricting public access to a beach near his $37 million estate. He also defended himself by pointing to his personal life—specifically his half-Indian partner Shivon Zilis and their son Shekhar, named after Nobel laureate physicist Subramanyan Chandrashekhar.
Khosla, who immigrated to the U.S. in the 1970s, defended his beach property dispute as a matter of private property rights. He also kept the heat on Musk, suggesting he "try not tweeting 'SEEMINGLY' racist stuff next time."
