Greene Calls Out Political Extremism on Both Sides
Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) took to X on Sunday with a message that's equal parts Second Amendment defense and plea for national calm. She's urging Americans to reject political extremism, warning that the country is being manipulated toward civil war.
Greene made it clear where she stands on the basics: she supports border security and law enforcement, but also constitutional rights. "Legally carrying a firearm is not the same as brandishing a firearm," she wrote, adding that "there is nothing wrong with legally peacefully protesting and videoing."
Then she got to the heart of her argument with a hypothetical scenario. What would happen, Greene asked, if a MAGA supporter filmed a federal law enforcement operation and things went sideways? She drew a direct parallel to how some supporters view the treatment of Jan. 6 defendants.
The former representative painted a vivid picture: if the FBI "shoves a woman with him to the ground and sprays them with bear spray, then throws the MAGA guy to the ground … and then shoots him dead," Americans would be outraged. It's a thought experiment designed to highlight what she sees as inconsistent responses to law enforcement violence.
Greene, who previously pushed to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, framed her message as a warning about political manipulation from all directions. "Both sides need to take off their political blinders," she wrote, insisting that people are "being incited into civil war."
Trump Blasts Minnesota Officials on Truth Social
President Donald Trump joined the fray on Truth Social, firing off criticism at Minnesota officials following a federal agent-involved shooting. His main question: where were local police when ICE officers needed protection?
Trump shared a photo of the suspect's gun and argued that state leaders "called them off," suggesting they deliberately failed to support federal law enforcement. He didn't stop there, pivoting to broader accusations against Democrats for enabling illegal immigration.
The president alleged widespread fraud in Minnesota, claiming "Tens of Billions of Dollars" are missing. He demanded the money be returned and promised jail time for those responsible.
Trump wrapped up by accusing the governor and mayor of "inciting Insurrection" and insisting that ICE should be allowed to do its job without interference.
National Leaders Weigh In on Minneapolis Crisis
The Minneapolis shooting has drawn reactions from across the political spectrum. Former President Barack Obama called the fatal shooting of Alex Pretti a "heartbreaking tragedy" and warned it should serve as a "wake-up call" about threats to American values.
Bill Clinton struck a historical tone, saying the moment is significant and that decisions made now will shape the future.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey condemned the shooting and didn't mince words. He questioned how many more people must die and directly urged Trump to remove ICE from the city.
Meanwhile, FBI Director Kash Patel announced the arrest of another suspect linked to the Jan. 14 incident. The person allegedly threatened an agent using stolen ID materials. Patel emphasized that threats and property destruction will not be tolerated, signaling a hard line on enforcement.
