A Big Economic Opportunity
The World Expo, officially called the International Registered Exhibition, happens every five years and aims to tackle universal challenges while promoting international cooperation, education, and cultural exchange. Japan hosted the most recent one in 2025. If Miami lands the 2035 edition, it would mark the first time America has hosted since 1962.
Trump announced the bid Thursday, leaning into the economic pitch. "We will create thousands of jobs, and add Billions of Dollars in GROWTH, to our Economy," he said. The president framed Miami's potential hosting as a signature moment in what he's calling the "new Golden Age of America."
Rubio Takes The Lead
Rubio, the first Latino American to serve as the nation's top diplomat, is also currently acting administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development and acting archivist at the National Archives and Records Administration. His portfolio keeps expanding—he was recently named a founding member of the Board of Peace for Gaza, a new governing body created to manage the region post-war.
The Miami native expressed enthusiasm about the appointment, calling the World Expo "an incredible stage to showcase our nation's Golden Age and American exceptionalism before the world." He added on X, "There is nothing quite like Miami hospitality and it would be a privilege to bring the World Expo back to the U.S. for the first time since 1962."
