Racing Into the Cloud
The partnership isn't just about slapping a logo on a car. Microsoft's technology will be woven throughout Mercedes' racing operations, aiming to boost efficiency, drive innovation, and improve the experience for Formula 1's massive global audience of over 800 million fans.
The timing matters. Formula 1 is gearing up for sweeping rule changes in 2026 that represent one of the sport's biggest technical transformations ever, with new emphasis on electrification, efficiency, and sustainability. As Mercedes prepares for this new era, the team is tapping Microsoft's cloud and enterprise AI capabilities to support everything from factory operations to race-day decisions.
Microsoft Azure and AI will expand the team's computing and data capabilities both at the factory and trackside, powering simulations, performance analysis, and race strategy with real-time insights that could make the difference between podium finishes and also-ran status.
What The Leaders Say
Toto Wolff, CEO and Team Principal of Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team, explained the vision: "By putting Microsoft's technology at the center of how we operate as a team, we will create faster insights, smarter collaboration and new ways of working as we look ahead to the next generation in F1."
Judson Althoff, CEO of Microsoft's commercial business, framed it in broader terms: "Together with the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team, we are harnessing data and turning it into real-time intelligence that powers faster decisions, smarter strategies and sustained competitive advantage — both on and off the track."
Microsoft shares rose 1.10% to $449.00 in premarket trading Thursday.
