Walmart Inc. (WMT) is shuffling its executive deck in what amounts to a wholesale reorganization of how the retail giant plans to compete in an AI-reshaped marketplace. Shares traded flat on Friday as investors digested the news.
The company's Board of Directors confirmed that incoming President and CEO John Furner has orchestrated a sweeping set of leadership changes across core business units. In announcing the moves, Furner pointed to what he considers the company's real competitive advantage: its people.
The promotions, Furner said, highlight both Walmart's culture of internal opportunity and the depth of its leadership bench. More importantly, the restructuring aims to organize the business for what's coming next as artificial intelligence fundamentally reshapes how retail works.
Growth and Digital Take Center Stage
The board elevated Seth Dallaire to EVP and Chief Growth Officer for Walmart Inc., a newly configured role that consolidates several high-growth digital businesses under one executive. Dallaire now oversees global enterprise platforms, including Walmart Connect, the company's fast-growing digital advertising arm.
His expanded portfolio also includes Walmart+, the membership program competing with Amazon Prime, along with Walmart Data Ventures, TV maker Vizio, Sam's Club MAP, and the global Marketplace platform. It's essentially every major growth bet Walmart has made beyond traditional retail.
New Leadership Across Core Divisions
David Guggina, formerly EVP and Chief eCommerce Officer for Walmart U.S., steps up as President and CEO of the domestic business. Guggina built the advanced delivery infrastructure that now serves most U.S. households in under three hours, a capability that's become table stakes in modern retail.
Chris Nicholas, currently President and CEO of Sam's Club U.S., shifts over to lead Walmart International. Nicholas brings retail operations experience spanning more than 10 countries, which should prove useful managing Walmart's sprawling global footprint.
Taking Nicholas's place at Sam's Club is Latriece Watkins, who moves from her role as EVP and Chief Merchandising Officer for Walmart U.S. Watkins started at Walmart as an intern back in 1997 and has spent decades shaping product assortments and customer experience across the business.
WMT Price Action: Walmart shares were down 0.59% at $118.50 at the time of publication on Friday. The stock is approaching its 52-week high of $121.23.
