A Congressman With Serious Crypto Conviction
When it comes to putting money where your political beliefs are, Rep. Brandon Gill (R-Texas) is walking the walk. The freshman congressman, who took office in January 2025 as a close ally of President Donald Trump, has been accumulating Bitcoin at a pace that would make even crypto enthusiasts take notice.
According to recent disclosures, Gill made two notable purchases in October:
- Oct. 20: Bought $100,000 to $250,000 in Bitcoin (BTC)
- Oct. 29: Bought $15,000 to $50,000 in shares of iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT)
But these October purchases are just the latest chapter in what's been a year-long Bitcoin buying campaign. Gill's 2025 transaction history reads like someone who checks the Bitcoin price before their morning coffee:
- Jan. 29, 2025: $100,000 to $250,000 BTC
- Feb. 27, 2025: $100,000 to $250,000 BTC
- May 13, 2025: $100,000 to $250,000 BTC
- May 18, 2025: $50,000 to $100,000 BTC
- June 20, 2025: $500,000 to $1,000,000 BTC
- June 23, 2025: $100,000 to $250,000 BTC
- July 8, 2025: $100,000 to $250,000 BTC
Add it all up, and Gill has invested somewhere between $1,150,000 and $2,600,000 in Bitcoin this year alone. He's also accumulated between $65,000 and $150,000 in the iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), having made a previous purchase of $50,000 to $100,000 in the ETF on July 17.
Timing That Raises Eyebrows
Here's where things get interesting. Some of Gill's purchases came at particularly fortuitous moments. His Jan. 29 trade happened shortly after Trump issued an executive order positioning the U.S. as a leader in digital assets. The Feb. 27 purchase came just ahead of Trump's announcement of a "strategic Bitcoin reserve."
The catch? Those trades weren't disclosed until May, which fell outside the 45-day window members of Congress have to report their transactions. That timing potentially constitutes a STOCK Act violation, though it's worth noting that late filings are surprisingly common on Capitol Hill.
The October disclosures mark Gill's first filings since July, suggesting he's been relatively quiet over the summer months before resuming his Bitcoin accumulation.
A Focused Portfolio Strategy
What makes Gill's trading pattern notable isn't just the size of his Bitcoin bets, but their focus. While his disclosure forms show some ETF transactions scattered throughout the year, his portfolio activity overwhelmingly centers on cryptocurrency. This isn't someone dabbling in crypto as part of a diversified trading strategy. This is conviction.
With more than $1 million deployed into Bitcoin in 2025, Gill could rank among the top cryptocurrency holders in Congress, a distinction that carries weight as lawmakers continue debating digital asset regulation and policy.
Bitcoin's Rocky Road
Gill's unwavering accumulation comes during a challenging period for Bitcoin. The cryptocurrency trades at $88,714.41 at the time of writing, down 12.5% over the past week. Over the last 52 weeks, Bitcoin has ranged between $74,436.68 and $126,198.07. Year-to-date, Bitcoin is down 5.1%, meaning Gill's 2025 purchases have largely been made during a correction.
Whether that makes him a savvy buyer accumulating during weakness or someone catching a falling knife remains to be seen. But one thing is clear: when it comes to Bitcoin, Brandon Gill isn't just talking the talk.
