Why 3 to 5 years
We plan to hold every stock on our long-term lists for 3 to 5 years. We buy a strong business at a price with room to grow, then give it years to prove us right. We do not try to guess what a stock does next week.
Time in the market beats timing the market.
So the first question is not which stock. It is which money. Only invest money you will not need for 3 years. Then a bad month is something you can wait out instead of something you have to sell into.
Six principles we follow
- 1
Own all of them.
No single stock carries the list. Put the same amount into every pick. On a 20 stock list that is 5% each.
- 2
Hold for 3 to 5 years.
Time in the market beats timing the market. We do not try to guess the next month.
- 3
Add money on a schedule, not on a feeling.
A set amount on a set day. The Allocation Calculator does the math for you.
- 4
Expect drops of 10% to 20% along the way.
That is normal, not a signal. When a stock drops, check its Scorecard, not the ticker.
- 5
Let winners run.
Do not trim a stock because it is up. The biggest gains come from the stocks you kept.
- 6
Keep some cash for the dips.
We default to 10%. It turns a bad month into a chance to add.
What we do, and what you do
What we do
- Pick every stock by hand for a strong business and a price with room to grow.
- Write a fundamental analysis and an investing strategy for each pick (a dividend strategy on Dividend Plays). Our analysts update them daily.
- Watch every company. If our view of the business changes, we remove the stock from the list and tell you right away.
What you do
- Own the whole list, the same amount in each stock.
- Add money on a schedule. The Allocation Calculator does the math.
- Hold through the bad months. When a stock drops, check its Scorecard, not the ticker.
- Keep about 10% in cash so a dip is a chance to add.
What to expect along the way
- Drops of 10% to 20% are part of the ride.
- Every list will have bad months. We do not sell on a bad month, and the plan works best if you do not either.
- What if a stock drops 30%?
- We re-check the thesis and tell you. We do not sell on price alone.
- When do we remove a stock?
- When our view of the company changes, not when its price does. We take it off the list and tell members right away.
How it has gone so far
Top Rankings is up +35.1% as one equal-weight portfolio. The S&P 500 is up +22.4% over the same days. The list has been ahead of the S&P 500 on 100% of trading days since it started.
Returns use the close on Nov 2, 2026. The S&P 500 is SPY, bought the day the list started and held. Hypothetical results based on historical prices. Past performance does not guarantee future results.
