Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) has already bottomed, according to investor Mark Moss, who calls current prices the "best buying opportunity ever." He also maintains his long-held view that "crypto is dead." Yes, both things at once. Welcome to Bitcoin.
Why Moss Says Seller Exhaustion Has Already Happened
Moss says Bitcoin has likely bottomed as seller exhaustion signals the market may be ready for a rebound.
He pointed to institutions buying over $3 billion in Bitcoin over the past seven to eight months while wallets holding fewer than 10 BTC sold roughly 5,000 coins, a pattern he called confirmation that weak hands have largely capitulated.
Moss also cited Bitcoin's muted reaction to a string of recent bad news, including the Coldcard hack, the Ledger exploit and the $6.3 billion Binance breach, as evidence sentiment has fundamentally shifted.
"When you see three big bad pieces of news… and the price doesn't go down, I think it just further confirms the seller exhaustion has happened," he said.
Midterm History Points to New Highs in 2027
Moss said he studied 19 U.S. midterm election years going back to 1950 and found the S&P 500 traded higher three, six and 12 months later in every single instance, averaging a 15% gain over that final stretch.
Applying similar logic to Bitcoin's available cycle data since 2014, he said the token has historically gained an average of 53% in the 12 months following a midterm year, ranging from 23% to 97%.
He argued Bitcoin currently sits in the "chasm" phase of technology adoption, the gap between early true believers and the broader early majority, a transition he says institutional buyers like BlackRock and JPMorgan are actively closing.
He cited research from River showing major financial advisors now recommend Bitcoin allocations between 2% and 5% of client portfolios, a shift he expects to meaningfully boost demand over the next year or two.
Moss Repeats His 2022 Call: Crypto Is Dead
Moss reiterated the controversial call he first made in 2022 after FTX's collapse, arguing venture capital money that once flowed into crypto tokens shifted decisively into AI once the SEC cracked down following the exchange's implosion.
He added firms like a16z effectively rebranded as AI investors, redirecting the kind of capital that previously inflated altcoin valuations.
Moreover, Moss said he's not personally invested in SpaceX (NASDAQ: SPCX), Anthropic or OpenAI, calling their business models difficult to make profitable, but he expects any eventual AI bubble unwind to redirect capital back toward Bitcoin specifically rather than altcoins broadly.
He pointed to Stanley Druckenmiller's family office rotating out of AI semiconductor positions and into Bitcoin miners last quarter as early evidence that rotation has already begun.
