Investors keep a close eye on what members of Congress do with their money, and the latest example is a straight-up chip stock swap. Rep. John McGuire (R-Va.) sold one semiconductor name and bought another, according to the MarketDash Government Trades page.
A Congressman Traded Broadcom for Micron, and the Timing Was Not Great

What McGuire Bought and Sold
Sept. 24: Sold $1,000 to $15,000 in Broadcom Inc. (AVGO) shares
Sept. 24: Bought $1,000 to $15,000 in Micron Technology (MU) shares
Sept. 25: Bought $1,000 to $15,000 in Micron Technology shares
Oct. 1: Bought $1,000 to $15,000 in Micron Technology shares
So the trade was simple enough: out of Broadcom, into Micron, then more Micron.
The timing on most of these trades could have been better. Micron shares traded above $1,000 on the days of his purchases and now trade at $707.96 at the time of writing. That is a rough entry point.
The good news is the Broadcom shares were sold before that stock also fell in recent weeks, with the technology sector suffering from a post-midterm election sell-off. So the exit was well timed even if the new purchase was not.
McGuire won a close re-election race in the 2026 midterms with 50.2% of the vote. He will continue to have to disclose his stock trades, which means investors will find out if he decides to sell Micron stock in the future.
Not the Most Active Trader in Congress
Compared to other members of Congress who buy and sell stocks, McGuire is not as active. The congressman has made 26 trades totaling around $208,000 since 2025, according to data from Quiver Quantitative.
Other recent trades in 2026 also centered on big technology, with McGuire buying shares of Nvidia, Meta Platforms, Microsoft and SpaceX.
For now, the Micron position is the one to watch. If the stock keeps sliding, the disclosure filings will tell us whether he holds on or cuts bait.
