Musk Takes Aim At 'Democrat Agenda'
In a post on the social media platform X in the early hours of Thursday, Musk quoted a post by Rep. Yassamin Ansari (D-AZ), who said that the first thing on the Democrats' agenda should be to introduce regulation in the sector and "ban artificial superintelligence."
Quoting Ansari's post, Musk offered his take on the comments. "It's a Brave New World," the billionaire said in the post. Notably, President Donald Trump had earlier banned the term artificial intelligence or AI from all official documents, replacing it with SI or Super Intelligence.
Notably, Musk had backed the GOP in the run-up to the midterm elections, reportedly spending roughly $474 million on political action groups aligned with Republican candidates.
Musk donated $158 million to the Senate Leadership Fund, the main Republican Senate super PAC, which subsequently directed the money toward a group supporting outgoing Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in his race against Democratic nominee James Talarico.
Musk spent $158 million on the former Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton's campaign against Democratic Party nominee James Talarico, who flipped the Texas Senate seat and became the first elected Democratic Senator-elect from the state since 1988.
Talarico and Musk have faced off in the days preceding the polls, with Musk calling Talarico a "far left extremist," while Talarico said that Musk-led automaker Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ: TSLA) was successful due to taxpayer money.
Ted Cruz's Warning
This comes as Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) said that the Democrats could target Musk's businesses following the midterm sweep.
Democrats would "persecute those they perceive to be enemies, especially Elon Musk," Cruz said, while DeSantis pointed to "very strong" political hostility against Musk following Democratic gubernatorial candidate Gina Hinojosa's victory in the gubernatorial elections.
Notably, both Talarico and Hinojosa remain critical of AI data centers, with Hinojosa also calling on the government to set up an AI data center moratorium.
In the days preceding the midterms, Musk received staunch criticism from experts like economists Paul Krugman and Robert Reich, with Reich calling for the nationalization of SpaceX after the company slowed down the system used by Ukrainian drones in the Ukraine-Russia war.
Grant Cardone on Talarico
Investor Grant Cardone, the founder of Cardone Capital, also warned of trouble for Musk's SpaceX and its data center goals. "If Talarico wins Texas, it won't be good for SpaceX or the AI bet," Cardone said as the counting of the polls was underway on Tuesday.
