Insulet Corp. (NASDAQ:PODD) had a good Wednesday. The insulin pump maker reported third-quarter 2026 results that beat expectations, raised its full-year revenue outlook and announced a $1 billion share repurchase program. Investors liked what they saw.
Adjusted earnings rose 59.9% year over year to $1.99 per share, beating Wall Street's estimate of $1.59. Revenue increased 19.2% to $842 million, topping analysts' estimate of $832.69 million. Sales grew 19.6% on a constant-currency basis.
Where the Growth Came From
Total Omnipod revenue rose 19.7% to $836.6 million, driven by strong international demand.
U.S. Omnipod revenue increased 14.7% to $570.4 million. International revenue jumped 31.7% to $266.2 million, reflecting 33% growth in constant currency. Meanwhile, Drug Delivery revenue declined 22.7% to $5.5 million.
Gross margin reached 75.1%, while operating income climbed to $189.8 million. Operating margin expanded 590 basis points to 22.5%. Adjusted operating margin improved 490 basis points to 22%.
Net income rose to $141.1 million, or $2.03 per share, from $87.6 million, or $1.24 per share, a year earlier.
The 2027 Warning
Here is where it gets interesting. During the earnings call, CEO Ashley McEvoy said the company's global customer base grew more than 20% year over year.
Insulet expects to launch Omnipod 6 in 2027. But management anticipates slower growth as new competitors enter the market.
"We plan to take a more conservative approach to our 2027 outlook," McEvoy said.
She said Insulet expects revenue growth to slow in 2027 as it builds on a larger sales base, prepares to launch Omnipod 6 and faces new competitors. She acknowledged that rivals could take a few percentage points of market share as they enter the insulin pump market. Still, she remains confident that Insulet will deliver strong growth and higher profitability.
The company also completed its U.S. sales force expansion and reported modest improvements in customer retention among people with type 2 diabetes.
The Data Play
Insulet completed the full U.S. market release of Omnipod Discover in October. The data analytics platform has attracted more than 35,000 users.
The company's products make more than 100 million automated dosing decisions and process over 850 million data messages daily.
McEvoy said the platform could help Insulet stand out as patients increasingly seek connected and personalized diabetes management tools.
A Billion-Dollar Buyback
Insulet's board approved a $1 billion share repurchase program. The company expects to allocate approximately $400 million toward buybacks during the fourth quarter, funded by existing cash.
McEvoy said the repurchase plan reflects management's confidence in the Omnipod platform and the company's long-term growth prospects.
The Numbers Ahead
Insulet raised the lower end of its full-year revenue forecast to $3.277 billion from $3.250 billion, while maintaining the upper end at $3.304 billion. Analysts expect $3.289 billion.
The company expects adjusted earnings of more than $6.46 per share, compared with Wall Street's estimate of $6.46.
For the fourth quarter, Insulet forecasts revenue between $889.6 million and $917 million, compared with analysts' estimate of $900.48 million.
Insulet also raised its adjusted operating margin outlook to approximately 150 basis points of year-over-year expansion, up from its previous forecast of 100 basis points.
