Congressman Spends Big on Bonds
Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) recently disclosed several trades involving US treasury notes, as reported by the MarketDash Government Trades page.
The trades were the following:
- Oct. 8: Bought US Treasury Note 3.375%, expiring Sept. 15, 2028 in transaction valued at $5 million to $25 million
- Oct. 14: Sold US Treasury Note 3.375%, expiring Sept. 15, 2028 in transaction valued at $5 million to $25 million
Notes on the transactions state that the purchase was $10 million in face value.
MarketDash reached out for details on the trade.
Buying and selling US Treasury notes in that short of a time is rather unusual. Investing in that dollar amount is also unusual, unless you have the wealth of Issa.
One of the richest members of congress, Issa is worth $398.97 million, according to Quiver Quantitative.
At $10 million, the purchase is 57.5 times his annual congressional salary of $174,000.
This also marks the first time Issa has disclosed buying US Treasury notes, with the rest of his disclosures being for treasury note sales.
Issa's Trading History
According to data from Quiver Quantitative, Issa has made over $280 million in trades since 2023, with the majority being US Treasury bonds and sales.
In 2025, this included $37.5 million in sales. The prior year saw $108 million in sales involving bonds and treasuries. The first tracked year of 2023 had $105 million in trades.
Some of the transactions disclosed in September 2024 show trades made in early 2024 and in 2023, which could indicate violating the STOCK Act of reporting transactions made within 45 days.
Issa is not running for re-election and will exit congress in early January.
