Strategy Inc. (NASDAQ:MSTR) dropped its third-quarter fiscal 2026 results after Thursday's closing bell, and the headline number from founder and Executive Chairman Michael Saylor was a big one: "We're at the beginning of the next Bitcoin bull market."
The market, at least initially, wasn't feeling the same enthusiasm.
The Numbers Behind the Bitcoin Bet
Strategy reported quarterly earnings of $44.75 per share, which may not compare to estimates. Revenue came in at $125.4 million, missing the Street estimate of $127.17 million and down from $128.69 million in the same period last year, according to market data.
But the real story here is the digital capital. As of Oct. 25, 2026, Strategy has purchased $14.33 billion of Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) year to date. The company now holds 848,517 Bitcoin, a 26% increase year-to-date. And in the third quarter alone, it booked a $20.91 billion gain on digital assets.
That's the kind of number that makes a revenue miss look like a rounding error, at least on paper.
CFO Transition Adds Another Wrinkle
Alongside the earnings, Strategy announced that CFO Andrew Kang will step down on Nov. 5. The company has appointed Reza Virasteh as the new CFO, effective Jan. 1, 2027, with CEO Phong Le covering the role in the interim.
CFO transitions always get a second look from investors, and this one lands right as Strategy is leaning harder than ever into its Bitcoin treasury strategy.
Saylor's Bullish Case
Saylor didn't hold back on the conference call, laying out the case for why the worst is behind the crypto market.
"Banks are embracing Bitcoin. Bitcoin's dominance among digital assets is growing, institutional demand is back, and Bitcoin price is 21% above its 200-week moving average," he said.
He also highlighted the company's digital credit business: "Digital Credit continues to grow, with $16 billion in notional value across ten publicly listed securities. Strategy continues to lead this industry with 84% market share and STRC returning to strength."
Where the Stock Stands
According to market data, Strategy stock was down 3.51% to $136.65 in Thursday's extended trading. Investors seem to be weighing the revenue miss and the CFO change against Saylor's bullish Bitcoin thesis, and for now, the cautious side is winning.
Whether Saylor's call on the next bull market proves prescient is the multibillion-dollar question. With 848,517 Bitcoin on the books, Strategy has a lot riding on the answer.
