eBay Inc. (EBAY) dropped its third-quarter numbers Wednesday after the market close, and the market liked what it saw. The stock is up 5.91% to $125 in after-hours trading, putting it right near the top of its 52-week range of $78.03 to $124.59.

The Numbers That Matter
Revenue came in at $3.206 billion, up 14% year-over-year. That beat the Street consensus estimate of $3.114 billion, according to data from MarketDash Pro.
Gross Merchandise Volume, the total value of goods sold on the platform, hit $23.2 billion for the quarter, up 15% year-over-year.
On the bottom line, eBay earned $1.51 per share, topping the consensus estimate of $1.41 per share.
There was also a fun nugget buried in the release: Goldin, the collectibles marketplace eBay owns, had another record quarter for gross merchandise volume. The highlight? A $3.65 million sale of a Declaration of Independence. Yes, an actual copy of the Declaration of Independence. Recommerce, it turns out, covers a lot of ground.
"eBay's strong third quarter results reflect continued momentum across our business priorities and customer segments as more consumers embrace recommerce," CEO Jamie Iannone said in the release. He added that the company's focus categories are helping drive "strong, sustained growth."
Guidance Comes In Hot
eBay didn't just beat on the quarter. It also guided above analyst estimates for both the fourth quarter and the full fiscal year.
For the fourth quarter, the company expects:
- Revenue: $3.19 billion to $3.24 billion (+7% to +9%)
- EPS: $1.48 to $1.53
- GMV: $23.7 billion to $24.1 billion
For the full fiscal year, management is looking for:
- Revenue: $12.62 billion to $12.67 billion (+14%)
- EPS: $6.25 to $6.30
- GMV: $91.5 billion to $91.9 billion
CFO Peggy Alford framed the outlook around spending discipline: "By investing with discipline in our highest strategic priorities and focusing on the areas where we have a clear competitive advantage, we are positioning eBay for durable, profitable growth and long-term shareholder value."
For a company that many investors had written off as a mature marketplace, that's a pretty convincing argument that the recommerce story still has legs. The after-hours pop suggests the Street agrees, at least for now.
