Second-Quarter Revenue Beats, Earnings Miss
VinFast reported a loss of 53 cents per share, wider than analysts' estimate of a 33-cent loss.
Revenue surged 85.5% year over year to $1.204 billion, beating the consensus estimate of $1.149 billion.
Vehicle sales revenue climbed 92.7% to $1.14 billion, driven by stronger EV demand in Vietnam and contributions from international markets, including India, Indonesia and the Philippines.
VinFast operated 474 showrooms worldwide as of June 30, reflecting its continued retail expansion.
VinFast delivered 70,085 electric vehicles during the second quarter, up 96% from a year earlier. International markets accounted for approximately 11% of total deliveries.
Meanwhile, e-scooter and e-bike deliveries jumped 311% to 286,039 units, highlighting growing demand for electric two-wheelers.
New Models And Robotaxi Plans Drive Expansion
VinFast launched the VF Wild range-extended electric vehicle in Vietnam, with international expansion planned for 2027.
The company also plans to pilot 200 Level 4 autonomous robotaxis at Vinhomes Green Paradise in late 2027, pending regulatory approval.
In Vietnam, VinFast maintained its market-leading position for 22 consecutive months through June 2026, with an estimated 38% market share.
Its newly launched VF 8 and compact VF 2 models attracted more than 12,700 and 28,700 reservations, respectively, within days of their debut.
VinFast also expanded its presence across Southeast Asia. During the second quarter, it ranked first among battery-electric vehicle brands in the Philippines, fifth in India and eighth in Indonesia.
Looking ahead, the company plans to strengthen its distribution network, expand manufacturing capacity and introduce additional EV models across Southeast Asia, India, the Middle East, North America and Europe.
Earnings Call Highlights: VinFast Bets On Real Estate To Offset EV Losses
During the second-quarter earnings call, VinFast executives outlined plans to improve profitability through cost reductions, an asset-light manufacturing model and a new real estate investment.
Chief Investment Officer Chien Nguyen said the company's 20% economic interest in the Hanoi International Sports Urban Area project could generate enough cash to offset losses from its electric vehicle business.
When BTIG analyst Jesse Silverson asked whether real estate cash flow could fully cover the company's current cash burn, Nguyen responded, "Based on our projection, yes. It is more a matter of timing."
VinFast expects the project to contribute earnings and cash flow beginning in 2027, reducing its reliance on external financing.
However, liquidity remains a concern. The company reported $2.3 billion in total liquidity as of June 30, including $281 million in cash and cash equivalents, approximately $968 million available through a Yorkville financing facility and nearly $1 billion in founder and Vingroup funding commitments.
Management acknowledged that certain financing agreements are approaching expiration and said it was exploring additional funding opportunities.
Meanwhile, Chief Financial Officer Lan Anh Nguyen reaffirmed VinFast's medium-term EBITDA break-even goal, with Vietnam expected to reach the milestone first.
The company expects vehicle production costs to decline another 10% to 15% during 2026 and 2027 as its next-generation platforms scale.
VinFast also maintained its annual target of 300,000 electric four-wheelers, with Vietnam expected to account for more than 75% of deliveries.
Management expects stronger second-half sales, supported by new vehicle launches, including the VF 2, VF 8 and MPV 7, alongside expanding operations in India, Indonesia and the Philippines.
VFS Price Action: VinFast Auto shares were down 6.25% at $2.92 at the time of publication on Monday, according to market data.
