Transocean Ltd (NYSE: RIG) announced on Monday that it secured two contracts for ultra-deepwater drillships in the U.S. Gulf, adding approximately $550 million in firm contract backlog. The company's stock is trading higher by almost 2% on Monday.
In the broader market, Nasdaq futures are up 1.10% while S&P 500 futures have gained 0.49%.
Expansion of Contract Backlog
The awards cover the company's Deepwater Proteus and Deepwater Conqueror drillships, with operations expected to begin in 2027.
The Deepwater Proteus secured a ten-well contract worth $325 million for an estimated 700-day campaign.
The Deepwater Conqueror secured a five-well contract for 450 days of work, contributing $225 million in backlog, excluding mobilization fees. The contract is scheduled to commence in the third quarter of 2027, directly following the drillship's existing program in Equatorial Guinea.
The new contract win brings the company's total contract backlog to more than $8 billion.
Previously, on Oct. 9, the company secured approximately $1.1 billion in firm contract backlog, including the fully approved Equinor ASA (EQNR) agreement and a new offshore drilling contract worth $62 million with Shell PLC (SHEL).
