Massie Mocks Trump Over Personal Attacks
On Sunday, Massie responded on X while sharing a clip of Trump criticizing him in a speech.
"How long will I live rent-free in @realDonaldTrump's head?" Massie wrote.
He added, "Wait until he finds out we're going to pass another Epstein bill AND vote on Impeaching Hegseth before I leave. That might renew the lease indefinitely!"
In the clip, Trump repeatedly insulted Massie, calling him a "loser" and "a terrible guy."
Trump also criticized Massie for opposing his signature tax-and-spending legislation, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
Trump Slams Massie Over GOP Spending Bill
"He voted against the great big beautiful bill, I think, right?" Trump said. "How the hell do you vote against that? It's like chuck full of goodies for everybody. Republican goodies."
Trump added that he wanted to find someone to run against Massie, signaling his opposition to the congressman's position within the Republican Party.
Massie has frequently broken with Trump on key issues, including efforts to make records related to Epstein public.
Massie Challenged Trump Administration Policies
Last week, Massie urged Trump to fire Hegseth to avoid an impeachment vote over alleged abuse of power and unauthorized military action against Iran.
Massie also backed Trump's diesel deal with Russia, saying it validated his 2022 warning that sanctions would raise costs for Americans.
Economists Criticize Trump's Tax Bill
Massie argued that government spending ultimately costs citizens through taxes, inflation and debt.
He criticized Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill for increasing spending, as projections showed the U.S. deficit reaching 6.1% of GDP in 2027.
Earlier this month, economist Steve Hanke backed Massie's criticism, reiterating his 2025 warning that the legislation would increase federal spending and national debt.
Massie argued that Congress could not cut taxes, increase spending and credibly claim the debt would fall.
In July, economist Justin Wolfers criticized the bill for making tax breaks for tips, overtime and Social Security temporary and restricted, while making tax cuts for wealthy Americans permanent.
He argued that the provisions fell short of Trump's campaign promises.
