What Experts are Saying
Freedom Capital Markets Chief Market Strategist Jay Woods highlighted that many big bank stocks reported strong second-quarter results and saw shares hit 52-week highs only to fall since then ahead of the third-quarter results.
"The upbeat mood last proved to be short-lived," Woods said in a weekly newsletter.
The market expert said investors will be focused on several items for big bank stocks reporting this week.
"Will potential higher for longer interest rates continue to support lending profits? Will there be a resurgence in IPOs?"
Woods said investors and analysts may also be watching to see what Bank of America and other financial companies say about the "health of the consumer and the economy."
"If the banks paint an optimistic picture while credit quality remains strong, it could reinforce the narrative that the economy is proving far more resilient than many expected. For this bull market to continue and thrive, financials could provide that needed tailwind for equities as we enter Q4."

Key Items to Watch
Bank of America's growth of AI tools could become an interesting topic to watch in Wednesday's report and management commentary. The company recently launched the AskGPS Intelligence Hub to expand its AI platforms.

A recent history of beating analyst estimates for both earnings per share and revenue will be on watch after rival JPMorgan Chase (NYSE: JPM) missed analyst estimates for both earnings and revenue on Tuesday.
Bank of America could show signs of market share gains from other large banks and smaller regional ones in the quarter. Commentary on winning new customers is always an area for investors and analysts to watch.
