Arm Holdings (ARM) stock is slightly up on Tuesday during a broader sell-off in semiconductor stocks, growing concerns about the sustainability of AI spending and the lingering effect of last week's legal dispute with Qualcomm Inc. (QCOM).
The Nasdaq is down 0.56% while the S&P 500 has shed 0.13%, and Technology is also in the red (down 0.6%).
AI Buildout and Capital Constraints
Broadcom Inc. (AVGO) CEO Hock Tan spoke at the DBS Asia Future Forward Conference in Singapore on Monday. "A lot of investors have no clue what they're investing in, but set very extreme expectations, only to find out that it's almost like they are in a casino gambling," Tan said, according to Reuters. Tan also said, "[What] I think might be the biggest constraint is capital."
Brookings Institution research published in September projects the U.S. AI infrastructure buildout will reach $10.3 trillion through 2032, averaging 3.63% of U.S. GDP annually.
Qualcomm Trial Adds to Arm's Pressure
Separately, a Delaware jury received Qualcomm's lawsuit against Arm on Friday, Reuters reported. Qualcomm alleges Arm breached its licensing agreements and intentionally sabotaged Qualcomm's dealings with Meta Platforms Inc. (META). The five-day federal trial in Wilmington is the second legal proceeding between the companies in two years. Qualcomm's architecture license with Arm extends through 2033.
Technical Analysis
From a longer-term trend view, ARM is still holding above its 200-day SMA ($221.53), but the stock is now trading 13.5% below its 20-day SMA ($290.20) and 7.2% below its 50-day SMA ($270.41), which frames the recent move as a pullback inside a bigger uptrend. That "below the faster averages, above the 200-day" setup often turns into a make-or-break zone where rallies need to reclaim the 50-day area to reassert upside control.
The bigger-picture trend markers are mixed but still constructive: the Golden Cross in April (50-day SMA over the 200-day SMA) keeps the longer-term bias tilted higher, even as the stock works off the September swing high. With the 52-week high set in June ($452.70) and the 52-week low in February ($100.02), ARM remains volatile, so traders tend to anchor on nearby moving-average levels for direction.
- Key Resistance: $267.50 — Lines up closely with the 50-day SMA/EMA zone where rebounds can stall.
- Key Support: $238 — Nearby floor that sits close to the 200-day EMA ($238.40), making it a key trend-defining area.
ARM Stock Price Activity: ARM shares were up 0.94% at $257.65 at the time of publication on Tuesday, according to market data.
