Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has a theory about how Americans might end up in electric vehicles: not through mandates or tax credits, but through the sheer pain of filling up at the pump.
In a post on X on Saturday, Greene argued that surging diesel prices are changing how some Americans view EVs, even as she took aim at Trump's energy policies.
"Diesel is so high people I know who never wanted an EV are now talking about buying one," she wrote.
She added, "It's mind-blowing to realize that Trump is ushering in the Green New Deal better than Democrats ever did by literally destroying American's ability to afford gas and diesel."
Greene contrasted Trump's approach with the Democrats' EV playbook, writing, "Democrats were going to force you to drive EV's and gave you a tax credit."
"Trump is going to force you by making you go broke and giving in but without a tax credit," Greene wrote. "I guess no matter who you vote for you get the Green New Deal. It's insanity."
She also criticized U.S. energy policy, writing, "America is one of the richest countries in the world with oil, but decades of America Last and we don't have the refining capacity to be self-sustaining."
She concluded, "You can't hate the government enough because it clearly hates us."
On Saturday, the national average diesel price stood at $6.4709 per gallon, according to data from the American Automobile Association (AAA), while regular gasoline averaged $4.4798 per gallon.
