Warren Buffett's departure from Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (BRK.B)'s chairman role comes at an interesting point for the stock. Berkshire stock is sitting almost directly on its short- and medium-term moving averages. That gives investors a clean technical level to watch as Berkshire moves into its next leadership chapter.

Buffett Hands Over the Chair
Berkshire said Friday that Buffett has become chairman emeritus and will remain on the board, while Howard G. Buffett takes over as chairman. Greg Abel remains CEO after assuming that role earlier this year.
The distinction matters for Berkshire shareholders. Abel runs the company's operations, while Howard Buffett's new role centers on the board and preserving Berkshire's culture. Warren Buffett will continue providing his perspective as a director.
The transition arrives after Berkshire stock closed Thursday at $509.20, down 2.04%, ending a six-session winning streak. The decline came even as the S&P 500 gained 1.14%, and trading volume of 5.8 million shares exceeded the stock's 50-day average of about 4.1 million.
Berkshire Stock Tests $505-$507
The pullback has brought Berkshire stock directly toward an important technical cluster.
The stock's 20-day simple moving average sits around $507.18, while the 50-day average is near $505.07. BRK.B's 200-day average is considerably lower at roughly $492.68.
That makes the $505-$507 zone particularly relevant. A move around those averages can show whether recent momentum is holding or whether the shares are entering a deeper consolidation.
Momentum indicators are less decisive. The chart's 14-day RSI (relative strength index) is around 51.6, roughly in neutral territory, while the MACD (moving average convergence/divergence) remains positive. That combination points to a stock that has lost some momentum without moving into technically weak territory.
Berkshire stock is also still about 5.3% below its Aug. 10 52-week high of $537.74.
The Next Berkshire Signal
The technical setup gives investors something concrete to watch as the succession story moves from announcement to reality.
If Berkshire stock continues holding the $505-$507 area, the moving-average cluster could become an important reference point for investors assessing the stock's next phase. A sustained move below it would put the 200-day average near $493 back on the radar.
For investors, the bigger catalyst is whether Berkshire's new leadership structure can maintain the capital-allocation discipline and operating model that shareholders have become accustomed to. Berkshire's stock chart is now providing an early market test of that transition, before Berkshire has had time to prove it through another full earnings cycle.
