Motorola Solutions Inc. (MSI) sees a long runway for its defense business as governments invest in border security, defense modernization and advanced communications systems.

Speaking at the Truist Technology Symposium on Tuesday, Chief Operating Officer Jack Molloy said the company is focused on scaling recently acquired Silvus Technologies and D-Fend Solutions. Motorola Solutions acquired Silvus in August 2025 and recently closed its acquisition of counter-drone specialist D-Fend.

Defense Demand Has Room To Run

Motorola Solutions expects Silvus to generate about $850 million in fiscal 2026 revenue. The company has expanded production in Los Angeles and Culver City, while a new Salt Lake City facility is expected to start contributing in the first quarter of 2027.

Molloy said demand is growing as the U.S., NATO members and Indo-Pacific countries invest in border security, defense modernization and unmanned systems. He said Motorola Solutions sees "a lot of room to run in defense," both domestically and internationally.

The company also views the opportunity as durable rather than tied to a single conflict. Molloy pointed to long-term defense programs and modernization efforts across several regions.

Public Safety Demand Stays Strong

Motorola Solutions also sees healthy demand across its core public safety businesses. The company reported record second-quarter orders and double-digit order growth during the first half. It expects mission-critical networks to grow 10% to 11% this year, video security about 11% and command center software 15%.

Meanwhile, its D-Series infrastructure upgrade represents a five- to seven-year refresh opportunity across public safety networks, Molloy said.

Motorola Solutions is also expanding its counter-drone presence through D-Fend. The technology targets airports, critical infrastructure, entertainment venues and public safety agencies.

Motorola Expands Share Buyback

Separately, Motorola's board recently authorized an additional $2 billion in share repurchases, lifting total authorization to $20 billion with no expiration date.

About $0.6 billion remained under the prior $18 billion program at the end of the second quarter.

In other news, Louisiana awarded Motorola Solutions a $139 million, 10-year contract covering six state agencies and all 64 parishes.

The project combines radio-network upgrades, body-worn and in-car video, smart radios with live translation, and digital-evidence software.

Analyst Outlook

The stock carries a Buy consensus rating with an average price target of $536.50.

JPMorgan raised its price target to $545 on Aug. 6, Truist Securities lifted its target to $545 on Aug. 7, and Evercore ISI raised its target to $550 on Aug. 26.
