'We Will Never Forget'
In a post on X, Bessent said the anniversary is a moment to remember both the victims and the first responders who risked their lives to save fellow Americans.
He added the government's commitment to those affected hasn't changed a quarter century later, vowing the country "will never forget."
"As we approach the 25th anniversary of September 11, we honor the memory of those we lost and the courage of those who risked their lives to save their fellow Americans," Bessent wrote. "A quarter century later, our promise to the victims and their families remains the same: we will never..."
About the Half Dollar
The Mint unveiled the 2026 Semiquincentennial Enduring Liberty Half Dollar, featuring a privy mark showing the date of the attacks encircled by the phrase "Never Forget."
Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, the coins are priced between $40 and $100, with pre-orders open through Sept. 25 and shipping expected to begin Dec. 3.
The obverse features the Statue of Liberty, while the reverse depicts Liberty passing a torch to a new generation, inscribed with "Knowledge Is The Only Guardian Of True Liberty."
Trump Coin
The half dollar follows the launch of gold-colored $1 coins earlier this month, which feature President Donald Trump and are part of a broader series marking the nation's 250th anniversary.
It features the inscriptions "Liberty," "In God We Trust" and "1776–2026," along with the presidential seal.
