The animated series "South Park" saw a boost in viewership in 2025 for seasons 27 and 28, with many episodes poking fun at President Donald Trump and members of his White House administration. A name change and statement from the show's co-creators suggests more criticism of Trump is coming.

'South Park' is Now 'South America'

The long-running animated series used many real storylines involving Trump for ideas for episodes last year, including company executives showering the president with gold and gifts. The show also took things beyond the real world with Satan involved alongside Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance.

Season 29 of "South Park" might have a name change for the franchise, according to a recent social media post.

"Inspired by the bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google, we are changing the name of South Park to SOUTH AMERICA. We especially want to thank our parent company, Paramount – a Skydance Capitulation," a post on social media reads, and is said to be from the show's creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone.

The name change would be an obvious nod to President Trump's renaming of the Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America) and Lake Ontario (Lake America). A recent threat from Trump on social media also shows he may be considering renaming the state of New Mexico to New America.

Calling out Google (GOOG) and Apple Inc. (AAPL) comes as both tech giants have changed the names of the geographic items on their Maps units. Mapquest, which is owned by System1 Inc (SST), did not make the name change to Lake America and saw a recent surge in downloads and usage.

The nod to Paramount Skydance (PSKY) comes amid past allegations that a settlement between Paramount and the president over a "60 Minutes" lawsuit helped secure regulatory approval of the merger with Skydance. Paramount Skydance owns Comedy Central and Paramount+, the two homes of "South Park" past and future episodes.

New Season This Month

New episodes of "South Park" (or "South America") premiere Sept. 16 at 10 p.m. on Comedy Central. Episodes will stream on Paramount+ the following day.

The series recently won the Creative Arts Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program, its first win in the category since 2013.

Seasons 27 and 28 each had five episodes. Many of those episodes featured animated versions of Trump, Vance and Cabinet members like former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.

The season 27 premiere had 5.9 million viewers, marking the show's biggest debut since 1999.
