If you thought the crypto mining stocks were done being exciting, think again. Thursday is shaping up to be another wild ride for two names that just won't sit still: BTC Digital Ltd. (BTCT) and BitMine Immersion Technologies Inc. (BMNR).
Let's start with BTC Digital. This stock went absolutely vertical after the bell on Wednesday, jumping 111.55% to $1.77. That's on top of a regular session where it had already climbed 79.97% to $0.84. So if you were lucky enough to be holding this thing all day, you basically tripled your money. Not bad for a Wednesday.
BitMine, meanwhile, was a bit more restrained but still impressive. It surged 6.47% to $21.55 in extended trading, after gaining 10.72% during the regular session to close at $20.24. Not quite the same fireworks, but hey, a 17% day is nothing to sneeze at.
Trading Volume Surges
Both of these crypto infrastructure companies saw some serious volume action on Wednesday. BTC Digital's volume spiked to 147.56 million shares, compared to an average daily volume of just 230,900 shares. That's roughly 639 times its normal trading volume. Let that sink in for a second. Six hundred and thirty-nine times. That's not a blip; that's a stampede.
BitMine's volume was also elevated, hitting 75.67 million shares versus an average of 31.59 million. That's about 2.4 times its typical volume. Not as extreme as BTC Digital, but still a clear sign that investors are piling in.
Sector-Wide Rally Sets The Stage
So what's driving all this madness? Well, the broader crypto market is having a moment. On Wednesday, Bitcoin (BTC) traded at $69,334.78, up 7.84%, with a market cap of $1.4 trillion and 24-hour volume of $51.7 billion. Ethereum (ETH) was even more impressive, trading at $2,255.12, up 18.11%, with a market cap of $272.1 billion and 24-hour volume of $33.3 billion.
The stock moves come as optimism builds over a potential September passage of the CLARITY Act, and a record single-day short liquidation of $2.74 billion fueled gains across crypto-linked equities. When shorts get squeezed, it can create a feedback loop that sends stocks soaring, and that's exactly what we're seeing.
Even the big players are getting in on the action. Strategy Inc. (MSTR), the world's largest corporate Bitcoin treasury holder, was up 12.68% on Wednesday and added another 3.73% in after-hours trading.
The political backdrop is also helping. President Donald Trump urged Congress to pass the CLARITY Act at a White House crypto summit on Wednesday, and Senate Banking Chairman Tim Scott said the bill has a "really good shot" of advancing. That kind of bipartisan (or at least bicameral) enthusiasm can move markets.
And if you needed more reason to be bullish on BitMine specifically, earlier this week the company disclosed that its crypto, cash, and moonshot holdings totaled $11.4 billion, including 5,815,164 ETH. That's a lot of Ethereum, and with ETH up 18%, that's a nice tailwind.
Trading Metrics
Here's a quick look at how these two compare on some key metrics:
| Metric | BitMine | BTCT |
|---|
| Market Cap | $12.21 Billion | $13.24 Million |
| 52-Week Range | $12.80–$65.60 | $0.43–$3.12 |
| YTD Performance | -35.11% | -48.67% |
Despite the recent surge, both stocks are still down significantly year-to-date. And according to market data, BTCT stock has a negative price trend across all time frames. So while the after-hours pop is exciting, it's worth remembering that these are volatile, high-risk names.
As always, do your own research and don't get caught up in the hype. But if you're looking for action, you're definitely finding it in the crypto mining space today.
