Twist Bioscience (TWST) had a Wednesday to remember. The stock jumped more than 17% after Anthropic, the AI company behind Claude, picked Twist to independently test proteins designed by its latest AI models. It's a move that puts Twist right in the middle of the AI drug discovery buzz.
Anthropic laid out the details in an Aug. 18 blog post, and Twist followed up with a regulatory filing. The campaign is testing AI-designed proteins against 15 targets. Twist's job is to produce the proteins at scale and see if they actually bind to their intended targets. That's a crucial step in figuring out whether AI-generated designs are worth pursuing for research and early-stage drug development.
Anthropic said it has already received data from the multi-arm campaign, which used its Claude Opus 4.8 and Mythos Preview models. For Twist, this is a chance to be the independent validator for some of the most advanced AI in the field.
