Keel Infrastructure Corp. (KEEL) is catching a bid in Monday's premarket session, and it's not hard to see why. The company's CEO just put his money where his mouth is.
According to a regulatory filing, Benjamin Gagnon scooped up nearly 59,000 shares of Keel's common stock last week. Specifically, he bought 58,888 shares on Thursday, Aug. 13, at a weighted average price of $3.33 per share, forking over roughly $196,000. After the transaction, his direct ownership stake climbed to 1,347,736 shares.
Insider buys like this tend to grab investors' attention because they signal that executives are willing to risk their own capital on the company's future. But let's be clear: an insider purchase alone doesn't guarantee a stock's performance. It's just one piece of the puzzle.
Recent Earnings Miss Estimates
Last week, Keel reported a loss of 11 cents per share, which was wider than the consensus estimate of a 6-cent loss. Revenue came in at $30.43 million, also missing the $32.40 million analysts were expecting.
The company posted an operating loss of $141 million, a stark reversal from the $11 million operating income it reported a year earlier. The latest results included $63 million in accelerated depreciation tied to mining-rig shutdowns at Panther Creek and Scrubgrass. Adjusted EBITDA also took a hit, falling to negative $24 million from positive $7 million in the prior-year period.
Analysts Remain Bullish
Despite the earnings stumble, Wall Street isn't backing away. Keel carries a consensus Buy rating and an average price forecast of $6.17, which implies substantial upside from where the stock is trading now.
BTIG initiated coverage with a Buy rating and an $8 price target on July 22. Citizens started coverage with a Market Outperform rating and a $10 forecast on June 24. Chardan Capital maintained a Buy rating and a $5.50 target on June 8.
Exposure To Major ETFs
Keel also has a notable presence in several State Street Galaxy funds, which could amplify price moves. The State Street Galaxy Hedged Digital Asset Ecosystem ETF (HECO) has a 10.35% weighting in Keel, while the State Street Galaxy Digital Asset Ecosystem ETF (DECO) has a 10.29% weighting. The State Street Galaxy Transformative Tech Accelerators ETF (TEKX) holds a 10.16% weighting.
Because of these sizable allocations, any inflows or outflows from these ETFs could translate into buying or selling pressure on Keel shares. It's something to keep an eye on if you're tracking the stock.
Price Action
Keel Infrastructure shares were up 7.69% at $3.78 during premarket trading on Monday, according to market data.
