When members of Congress buy or sell stocks, any trades reported after the 45-day disclosure window violate the STOCK Act and tend to draw heightened scrutiny from retail investors. One congressman recently disclosed 32 trades, with 22 filed past the deadline.

Congressman Violates the Stock Act
Rep. Michael A. Rulli (R-Ohio) recently disclosed 32 stock trades, as reported by the MarketDash Government Trades page.
The transactions are as recent as Aug. 6, 2026 and as old as November 2024.
Three of the trades were made in 2024, 12 in 2025 and seven were done before June 2026. These all appear to violate the Stock Act, which requires Congress members to disclose transactions before 45 days from the trading date.
"We just caught another Stock act violation. Congressman Michael Rulli just disclosed his trades for the first time since joining Congress. The disclosure includes up to $480k worth of trades. Some, dated back to November 2024," Insiderwave tweeted.
A report from Notus also highlighted the late filings with Rulli's office not responding to a question from the media outlet.
Rulli took office in 2024 and is worth $26.9 million according to data from Quiver Quantitative.
Among the stocks traded by Rulli over the last two years include six of the seven Magnificent Seven stocks and some other popular tickers highlighted below:
- Apple Inc Apple Inc. (AAPL)
- Amazon.com Inc Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN)
- Meta Platforms Meta Platforms (META)
- Alphabet Alphabet (GOOGL)
- Microsoft Corporation Microsoft Corporation (MSFT)
- Nvidia Corporation Nvidia Corporation (NVDA)
- Micron Technology Micron Technology (MU)
- Palantir Technologies Palantir Technologies (PLTR)
Of the Magnificent Seven names, Alphabet, Nvidia and Meta appear to be the current favorites with recent purchases made in 2026 and no recent sales.
Stock Act Violations
MarketDash has reported on plenty of Stock Act violations in the past as tracking members of Congress has become a common practice and is done on the MarketDash Government Trades page.
One of the recent violators was Rep. Julie Johnson (D-Texas).
Johnson's transactions include buys and sales, with some stock transactions done on the same day. The transactions total up to $1.1 million in buys and sales.
Johnson's trades are catching attention due to their timing. While the disclosure was recently made in August 2026, the trades date back to December 2025, October 2025, September 2025 and one trade completed on May 7, 2025.
Johnson has been a member of Congress since 2025, but will be exiting in January 2027. The congresswoman lost her re-election bid in a runoff against Colin Allred for the Democratic nomination earlier this year.
According to a report from NOTUS, Johnson's past stock trading history may have contributed to her loss.
Johnson previously promised to sell her personal stock holdings to "avoid any potential conflicts of interest," according to the report. Those transactions were not disclosed until this week.
Johnson's spokesperson Chelsea Roe told NOTUS the trades were "transfers between accounts to complete the final divestment of those stocks in 2025." The spokesperson said the final sales were made "within the required time frame," but transfers weren't. The latest transaction report "makes those corrections," Roe said.
The spokesperson did not confirm whether Johnson violated the STOCK Act or had to pay a late filing fee.
Allred previously used stock trades made by Johnson before and after President Donald Trump's "Liberation Day" in campaign messages to show that the congresswoman was profiting from companies that did business with Trump and the president's decisions.
While stocks are likely not the only reason Johnson lost her re-election bid, her opponent using her stock trading history against her could be something to watch in the ongoing battles for the 2026 midterms.
