Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) has a theory about why President Donald Trump refused to sign a bipartisan housing bill that later became law anyway — and it's not exactly flattering.
In an episode of All In with Chris Hayes on MS Now Monday, Warren questioned Trump's decision not to sign the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, a bill that passed Congress overwhelmingly and became law automatically without his signature in mid-July 2026.
"He doesn't care about families in America; he doesn't care about their costs; he doesn't care about how they are struggling," Warren said. She added that Trump also doesn't care about Republicans in the House and Senate who could have claimed a win beyond "a tax break for billionaires."
Warren expanded on her theory that the President rejected the bill because it offered no personal benefit to him. "No gold statues for Donald Trump, no gold bars for Donald Trump, no naming opportunities for Donald Trump, no arches for Donald Trump in this housing bill," the Massachusetts Senator said.
The bipartisan housing legislation aims to boost supply by cutting construction costs, lowering overall housing prices, and, for the first time, restricting private equity firms from purchasing large numbers of single-family homes to prevent turning homeowners into renters.
