SK Hynix's blockbuster U.S. debut has put South Korean equities on the radar of American investors, but Siebert Financial Corp. (Siebert (SIEB)) CEO John J. Gebbia thinks we're only scratching the surface.

While AI memory chips have become the face of Korea's stock market for many U.S. investors, Gebbia says the next wave of opportunity could stretch across industries ranging from defense and batteries to digital platforms and power infrastructure — especially as cross-border investing becomes easier.

In an exclusive interview following Siebert's partnership with Kakao Pay Securities, Gebbia said investor demand is likely to extend well beyond the country's semiconductor champions as the firms work toward launching tokenized cross-border investment products.

AI Beyond Memory

Asked which South Korean companies could see the strongest demand for 24-hour trading access, Gebbia declined to name specific stocks but highlighted several sectors he believes are well positioned to attract U.S. investor interest.

"We expect interest in companies tied to themes U.S. investors already follow, including mobility, AI and digital platforms, defense, battery production, power infrastructure, and healthcare," Gebbia said, adding that the comments were intended to illustrate the breadth of opportunity rather than serve as investment recommendations.

While Gebbia declined to name specific companies, the themes he highlighted include some of South Korea's best-known corporates. AI and digital platforms could point investors toward names such as Samsung Electronics (SSNLF), Naver, and Kakao, while mobility includes Hyundai Motor and Kia. Defense has been led by companies including Hanwha Aerospace and Hyundai Rotem, battery production by LG Energy Solution and Samsung SDI, power infrastructure by HD Hyundai Electric and Doosan Enerbility, and healthcare by Samsung Biologics and Celltrion.

More Than Another ADR

Gebbia also emphasized that tokenized securities are not intended to replace traditional listings such as SK Hynix's recently launched Nasdaq ADR. Instead, he sees them as expanding investor choice by potentially offering broader trading access and pricing that more closely reflects shares trading in South Korea.

"We do not see one format replacing the other," Gebbia said. "Investors will choose based on liquidity, pricing, currency exposure, and other factors attached to each product. Our goal is to give them that choice."

For U.S. investors, that broader choice could eventually mean looking beyond familiar names like SK Hynix and Samsung. If tokenized cross-border investing gains traction, South Korea's next investment story may be driven not by a single AI memory champion, but by an entire ecosystem spanning defense, electrification, digital platforms, and infrastructure.
