On Thursday, NVIDIA Corp. NVIDIA (NVDA) and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) launched a joint AI research lab in Seoul. The goal? To build agentic AI models and systems that actually speak Korean and understand the country's industries.
The collaboration is worth roughly $300 million, including about $50 million in annual compute contributions over five years. That's a lot of GPU time. The deal also funds at least 10 KAIST researchers each year, plus NVIDIA internships and full-time hiring opportunities for students.
The lab will use NVIDIA's Nemotron open models and local NVIDIA Cloud Partner infrastructure to accelerate the development of Korean-language AI models for enterprise and national applications. Think of it as NVIDIA planting a flag in South Korea's AI ecosystem — and bringing a big check.
