President Donald Trump has a new friend across the pond. On Monday, Trump took to Truth Social to heap praise on the United Kingdom's new Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, after their first phone call. The president highlighted the "outstanding relationship" between the two countries and sounded optimistic about what's ahead.

Trump said the call covered a range of topics: North Sea oil, trade, the military alliance, and demining the Strait of Hormuz. "We will be meeting in the not too distant future for topics of mutual interest," Trump wrote. He added, "..the U.S.A. will be there to help!"

Burnham took office on Monday, pledging economic reforms. His office said he assured Trump that London supports reopening the Strait of Hormuz, according to Reuters.

This warm exchange is a notable shift from Trump's relationship with the previous prime minister, Keir Starmer. Back in April, Trump slammed Starmer's choice of ambassador to Washington, saying the UK leader made a "wrong judgment" in appointing former ambassador Peter Mandelson. By June, Trump was predicting Starmer would resign, blaming his handling of immigration and energy policy—especially on North Sea oil.

Things got even frostier after the UK initially refused a U.S. request to use British bases for strikes on Iran, though Starmer later approved their use. Now, with Burnham in charge, it looks like Trump is ready to turn the page.
