Democratic lawmakers are turning up the heat on President Donald Trump as the situation in Iran unravels and gas prices head back up. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) took to social media Wednesday to voice their frustration, painting the administration's approach as a costly failure.

Jeffries: 'Reckless War of Choice'
Jeffries didn't mince words in a post on X. "The so-called ceasefire in the Middle East has collapsed. Again," he wrote. "Donald Trump's reckless war of choice in Iran has been a disaster." The New York Democrat's comments come as the fragile truce between the U.S. and Iran appears to have fallen apart, reigniting concerns about broader conflict in the region.
Murray: 'Total Failure of Leadership'
Sen. Patty Murray piled on, quoting a clip of Trump at the NATO summit in Ankara where the president himself declared the ceasefire deal "over." "What a total failure of leadership," Murray said. "Gas prices are surging again and apparently the peace deal is in tatters and our servicemembers are still in harm's way to fight a war the American people do NOT support." She then took aim at Republican lawmakers who voted against halting military operations with Iran. "Every Republican who voted to continue this war owns this failure," she added.
Gas and Oil Prices on the Rise
The political backlash comes as real-world economic pain hits drivers. According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), the national average price for a gallon of gas stood at $3.846 on Thursday. In California, prices remained well above the $5 mark at $5.383 per gallon. Indiana had the cheapest average at $3.219 per gallon. Oil prices also held firm, with West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude at $72.92 per barrel and Brent crude at $77.33 per barrel. The United States Oil Fund (USO) traded at $110.54 during premarket trading on Thursday.
