President Donald Trump announced that Walmart Inc. (WMT) will be significantly reducing prices at the request of his administration.

In a Truth Social post on Monday, Trump revealed the move to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States. The initiative includes price reductions on several products, including a nearly 15% cut in the price of a pound of ground beef.

"Walmart is stepping up in a big and bold way, and other Retailers should follow the lead of these absolute Patriots," wrote Trump.

He also took the opportunity to criticize former President Joe Biden for his handling of the economy, particularly the inflation crisis. Trump added that oil prices are falling rapidly, with gas prices also dropping, and claimed his policies are driving down egg and prescription drug prices to historic lows.

Walmart Sales Slowdown Concerns

This announcement comes amid concerns about a slowdown in Walmart's sales, according to a research note earlier this month. The note suggested that Walmart's U.S. comparable sales may have slowed, putting consensus expectations at risk unless trends improve later in the month. It also says the retailer is cutting prices to reduce inventory while using tariff refunds to offset the cost of those markdowns.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration rolled out a $500 million financial support package for smaller meatpackers struggling with escalating beef prices, excluding the large meat processors like Tyson Foods Inc. (TSN), JBS NV (JBS), Cargill, and National Beef, which is owned by Brazil's MBRF Global Foods. This move aims to offset higher cattle acquisition costs resulting from historically low U.S. cattle supplies.

Furthermore, the cost of a Fourth of July barbeque outing hit a record high this year, with the average cost for 10 people coming in at $73.82, up 4% from 2025, which aligns with the overall 12-month U.S. inflation of 4.2%.
