On Monday, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker (D) turned up the heat on President Donald Trump, accusing him of resorting to illegal tactics against political opponents whenever he faces losses in court or at the polls.
In a post on X, Pritzker didn't mince words. He wrote, "When Donald Trump feels like he's not winning, he will break the law to go after those he thinks are his political enemies or who are defeating him in court and at the ballot box."
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
This isn't the first time Pritzker has gone after Trump on policy. Earlier, he criticized Trump's tariffs and Republican economic policies, arguing they're driving up inflation and making life more expensive for everyday Americans. Pritzker said people are "feeling the pain" from tariffs, with higher prices for groceries, gas, and prescription drugs. He noted that inflation is higher now than when Trump took office and accused Republicans of cutting health care and food assistance programs.
Pritzker also took aim at Trump's spending priorities. He pointed to Trump's comments about oil prices and argued the administration is focusing on flashy, high-profile projects instead of providing real relief to consumers. He contrasted proposed spending on Trump-linked projects with cuts to social safety net programs like Medicaid and SNAP, framing it as a question of fairness: federal money seems available for the president's pet projects, but not for basic assistance.
The governor's latest broadside suggests the political battle between the two is far from over, with Pritzker positioning himself as a vocal critic of Trump's methods and policies.
