Election Security Debate
In a post on X, Scott argued that voting is for American citizens only and backed the SAVE Act as a solution.
"American elections aren't a free for all for illegal alien voters. They're for American citizens. People need to prove citizenship and show ID," he wrote.
He added, "The SAVE America Act is absolutely necessary."
SAVE Act Voting Clash
On Monday, President Donald Trump called on Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) to remove Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough, accusing her of blocking the SAVE America Act.
The bill would require proof of citizenship and photo ID for voter registration and voting.
Earlier, former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene criticized Republican leadership for failing to pass the SAVE America Act, despite GOP control of government. She also objected to additional U.S. aid for Ukraine and raised concerns about broader foreign policy decisions, including military cooperation with Israel and involvement in the Iran conflict.
Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) warned the legislation could have disenfranchised millions of Americans, especially seniors, saying stricter ID and in-person re-registration requirements could make voting more difficult for those without passports or easy access to birth certificates.
Former President Barack Obama also opposed the measure, stating it would have made voting harder and urging Congress to reject the proof-of-citizenship requirement.
