A new Reuters/Ipsos poll shows President Donald Trump with a low approval rating, and higher gas prices might be a big reason why. The numbers look similar to other recent polls taken since the U.S. attacked Iran in February.

Trump Approval Rating
The poll puts Trump's approval rating at 35%, unchanged from mid-May. His disapproval rating is 63%, also flat from the last survey. That gives the president a net approval rating of -28.
That 35% is just above the lowest he's seen in his second term—a 34% rating back in April, according to Reuters/Ipsos.
When it comes to gas prices, voters are pessimistic. Only 17% think prices will get better because of the Iran War, while 13% say they'll stay the same and a whopping 59% expect them to get worse. The remaining 11% weren't sure or skipped the question.
Asked whether the military action in Iran is worth it, just 25% of voters say yes. A majority—53%—say no, and 23% aren't sure or skipped the question.
Voters Disapprove of Trump's Cost-of-Living Management
On the cost-of-living front, only 22% of voters approve of Trump's handling, while 70% disapprove. That's actually worse than former President Joe Biden's final marks at the end of his term. Biden had a 29% approval and 63% disapproval for his cost-of-living management, which came during a period of high inflation that was a major consumer worry.
American voters now seem to think they might be even worse off than during that period, given the current cost of living and Trump's perceived lack of attention to this key issue.
The combination of voter opinions on the Iran War and Trump's focus on the cost-of-living could spell trouble for the Republican party. In hypothetical congressional elections held today, voters say they'd pick the Democratic candidate over the Republican by a 41% to 37% margin, with the rest undecided.
