Trump And His Big Oil Friends
In a post on X on Tuesday, Sanders slammed Trump and "his Big Oil friends" for wanting to increase "fossil fuel and carbon emissions," as well as criticized the President for calling climate change "a hoax."
"Meanwhile, the planet is warming at dangerous levels and Europe is facing a record-breaking heatwave," Sanders said, adding that humanity must break the "fossil fuel addiction" to "save the planet."
Notably, a report published by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in late May shared that global temperatures could rise to record levels within the next five years.
The report points to temperatures ranging between 1.3°C and 1.9°C above the 1850-1900 average, while also predicting that any one year from 2026 to 2030 could surpass 2024 as the warmest year on record.
Elizabeth Warren, Gavin Newsom Slam Trump
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass) accused Trump of helping oil companies profit from the war in Iran. She pointed towards oil executives like Chevron Corp. (CVX) CEO Mike Wirth, who made over $104 million since the Iran war, as well as ConocoPhillips (COP) CEO Ryan Lance gaining over $54 million by selling off stock since the war began.
Meanwhile, Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) urged residents in California to avoid Chevron in favor of unbranded gas, as name-brand gas could lead drivers to overpay at the pump. He also accused oil companies of profiting from the Iran war.
Ross Gerber's Anti-Oil Stance
Investor Ross Gerber of Gerber Kawasaki recently shared that the ongoing war in Iran, as well as the challenges presented by the Strait of Hormuz blockade, would present a "great opportunity" to remove the world's dependency on oil.
Gerber also asked why the world was dependent on oil when alternative sources of energy could be cheaper than fossil fuels.
