President Donald Trump has a message for those freaking out about the Iran negotiations: relax. On Sunday, Trump took to Truth Social to urge patience, telling his team not to rush into a deal with Iran. "Time is on our side," he wrote, emphasizing that the U.S. naval blockade on Iranian ports will stay in full force until an agreement is "reached, certified, and signed."
Trump's comments came amid growing criticism from some Republicans, including former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who have voiced concerns about the rumored terms. Pompeo warned the deal could boost Iran's military capabilities, while Cruz cautioned against enabling Tehran's nuclear ambitions. Trump countered by saying the negotiations are proceeding in an "orderly and constructive" manner — a sharp contrast to what he called the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) signed by former President Barack Obama, which Trump has repeatedly slammed as "one of the worst deals ever."
The negotiations are at a critical juncture. Reports indicate Iran has tentatively agreed to relinquish its stockpile of highly enriched uranium, a key condition for any nuclear agreement with the U.S. However, Iran has denied reaching any such deal, adding a layer of confusion. The potential 60-day ceasefire has also sparked apprehension among GOP lawmakers like Senator Roger Wicker (R-Miss.), who warned that it could undermine "Operation Epic Fury," the joint U.S.-Israel military operation. Wicker argued that the operation would lose its significance if the deal proceeds as rumored.
Trump, for his part, insists there can be no mistakes. "Both sides must take their time and get it right," he said. "There can be no mistakes!" He reiterated that Iran must not develop nuclear weapons, a red line that remains non-negotiable. For now, the blockade stays, the talks continue, and Trump is betting that patience will pay off.
