On Sunday, President Donald Trump turned up the heat in a Kentucky Republican primary, launching a blistering attack on Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) and throwing his support behind challenger Ed Gallrein. If you thought political feuds were just for Democrats, think again — this one is getting personal.
Trump didn't hold back, calling Massie a "Weak and Pathetic RINO" and "the Worst Republican Congressman in History." He accused Massie of consistently opposing key GOP priorities, including tax cuts and border security, and criticized his voting record on law enforcement and cultural issues. "The incredible people of Kentucky's 4th Congressional District gave us a mandate to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN," Trump wrote, adding that Gallrein is the candidate who would carry that agenda forward.
Gallrein, described by Trump as a "Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Fifth Generation Kentucky Farmer," is being positioned as a "true America First Patriot." Trump said Gallrein would support "peace through strength," secure the border, defend the Second Amendment, cut taxes, and promote U.S. energy dominance. Meanwhile, Trump dismissed Massie as a "totally ineffective LOSER" whose votes often align against Republican priorities and weaken the party's agenda.
This isn't the first time Trump has gone after Massie. During a recent Kentucky visit, Trump urged voters to replace the congressman over his opposition to key GOP legislation tied to Trump's agenda. Trump called Massie "the worst" and said he "only votes no," questioning his effectiveness in Congress. Gallrein, for his part, said he would closely support Trump's policies if elected, while Massie pushed back, criticizing the event's organization.
Economist Peter Schiff weighed in on the drama, posting on X that Republican criticism of Massie signals the end of Reagan-style conservatism within the GOP. He argued the party has become "the most left wing Republican Party in history" and warned that Democrats would move further left in response, creating a "political death spiral." He ended his post with a cheeky "Got Gold?" — a nod to his long-standing advocacy for precious metals.
For retail investors watching this race, the primary outcome could signal the direction of the GOP's internal battles — and potentially influence legislative priorities on taxes, spending, and regulation. But for now, it's a bare-knuckle brawl in Kentucky, with Trump throwing haymakers and Massie trying to dodge.
