President Donald Trump has a message for Iran: move fast, or there won't be much left to negotiate with.
In a Truth Social post on Sunday, Trump turned up the heat on stalled peace talks, warning that "the clock is ticking" and Iran needs to get moving "FAST, or there won't be anything left of them." The post came after Trump rejected Iran's latest response to the U.S. peace proposal, which he found "totally unacceptable" because Tehran insisted on separating nuclear discussions from broader peace talks.
"For Iran, the Clock is Ticking, and they better get moving, FAST, or there won't be anything left of them. TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!" Trump wrote.
The conflict, which began in February alongside Israel, has seen Trump consistently pressuring Iran to halt its nuclear enrichment activities. Trump recently described the ceasefire with Israel as being on "life support" after its extension last month. Earlier on Sunday, Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed the Middle East conflict and Trump's recent visit to China.
Throughout the ongoing conflict, Trump has claimed significant damage to Iran's military infrastructure, arguing that Tehran lacks leverage in negotiations. Pakistan has been mediating between the U.S. and Iran, with Trump urging Iranian officials to engage via phone or visit the U.S. for talks.
The warning comes amid heightened tensions between the U.S. and Iran. Trump has emphasized that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons outweighs domestic economic concerns. During an interview with Fox News, Trump defended his stance, asserting that stopping Iran's nuclear ambitions is a priority over Americans' cost-of-living issues.
Trump has also been vocal about the need for a 20-year assurance from Iran to halt nuclear activities. He hinted at potential actions to ensure the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical passage for global oil shipments. Trump dismissed Iran's recent proposal, demanding a complete nuclear prohibition.
Economist Peter Schiff criticized Trump's approach, warning that without a ground invasion, Iran might emerge victorious in the ongoing conflict. Schiff highlighted Iran's growing influence in the Gulf region and its control over the Strait of Hormuz, which could have significant geopolitical implications.
