Lucid Group, Inc. (LCID) executive Nick Twork just experienced what the company's robotaxi future might feel like — and he liked it.
In a post on X Friday, Twork described his first ride in a Lucid vehicle equipped with Nuro's autonomous technology and integrated with Uber's ride-hailing platform. He called the trip smooth and natural, a big milestone for a partnership that was only announced nine months ago.
“Just took my first ride in a Lucid × Nuro × Uber robotaxi. Only nine months after announcing the partnership, it was impressive to experience how natural it already feels. A big milestone for the teams involved and an exciting glimpse at what's ahead,” Twork wrote.
The partnership, unveiled in July 2025, aims to launch a premium global robotaxi service exclusively on Uber's platform. The plan calls for an initial rollout in a major U.S. city in 2026, using Lucid Gravity vehicles equipped with Nuro's Level 4 autonomous driving technology. Uber or its fleet partners will own and operate the vehicles, with a target of at least 20,000 Lucid robotaxis deployed over six years. Uber also plans to invest hundreds of millions of dollars into Lucid and Nuro.
Lucid has already demonstrated a prototype operating autonomously at Nuro's Las Vegas testing facility. The company touts the Gravity SUV's long driving range and redundant architecture as key advantages for robotaxi operations.
Despite the progress, Lucid's stock has had a rough year, losing over 78% in the past twelve months. The robotaxi program could offer a much-needed catalyst, but investors will be watching closely to see if the partnership can deliver on its ambitious timeline.
