Congressional trading is always a spectator sport for retail investors, and the latest disclosure from Sen. John Boozman (R-Ark.) gives us two new energy names to chew on. In April, Boozman bought shares of Constellation Energy Corp (CEG) and Devon Energy (DVN), according to data from MarketDash's Government Trades page.
Here are the details:
- April 2: Bought $1,000 to $15,000 in Constellation Energy (CEG)
- April 9: Bought $1,000 to $15,000 in Devon Energy (DVN)
Both purchases were made through a joint trading account, and they represent Boozman's first buys of either stock, per data from Quiver Quantitative.
What ties these two together? Energy, yes, but more specifically, exposure to data centers. Constellation Energy is a nuclear power giant that's been riding the wave of AI-driven electricity demand. Devon Energy is an oil and gas producer, but it also has a hand in powering data centers through natural gas. So Boozman's picks give him a foot in both the old energy world and the new one.
Timing-wise, the Constellation purchase looks sharp. On April 2, shares traded between $264.74 and $275.64. As of today, they're at $294.10 — a tidy gain. Devon Energy hasn't been as kind: shares are at $46.61, below the $47.60 to $49.11 range on April 9.
Boozman has been an active trader in the Senate. Over the past few months, he's also built up positions in Microsoft (MSFT) and Nvidia (NVDA), two tech giants deeply tied to AI and data centers. So these energy buys fit a pattern: betting on the infrastructure that powers the AI boom.
His portfolio also includes oil and defense stocks, which have drawn some scrutiny given the U.S. government's increased military operations in Venezuela and the Middle East, plus rising oil prices from ongoing tensions. Buying defense and oil during a period of heightened conflict is the kind of thing that raises eyebrows — but it's also a bet on the status quo.
For now, Boozman's latest moves suggest he sees energy — both nuclear and fossil fuels — as a key part of the data center story. Whether that thesis pays off is another question, but at least one of his picks is already in the green.
