U.S. Vice President JD Vance is reportedly meeting Qatar Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani in Washington to discuss Iran negotiations and other issues amid a fragile U.S.-Iran ceasefire.

The meeting will also cover U.S.-Qatar relations, liquefied natural gas markets, and regional stability, Reuters reported on Friday.

The Office of the U.S. Vice President did not immediately respond to MarketDash's request for comment.

US Expands Gulf Defense Commitments

The discussions come as tensions in the Middle East remain elevated. The talks follow Washington's continued expanding defense support for regional allies, with the U.S. approving more than $8.6 billion in arms sales to Qatar, Israel, Kuwait, and the UAE under emergency authority.

Separately, in April, Qatar's state-owned national petroleum company QatarEnergy and Houston-based Exxon Mobil (Exxon Mobil (XOM)) loaded the first LNG export cargo from the Golden Pass terminal in Texas, marking a key milestone for U.S. LNG output and global supply flows.

Energy Markets Under Pressure

Qatar's LNG infrastructure is important for the U.S. as Goldman Sachs (Goldman Sachs (GS)) warned that damage to it could push global gas prices up 50%–100%, highlighting sensitivity in global energy markets tied to regional security risks.

The talks also come amid heightened tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for global energy supply, with reported disruptions and renewed geopolitical friction impacting crude flows and pricing benchmarks.
