Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) has given a thumbs-up to the new partnership between SpaceX and Anthropic, praising Elon Musk's approach to artificial intelligence as distinctly "pro-human."
"Pro-human for the win," DeSantis posted on X, adding that it's "appalling" to see "tech leaders" being "indifferent" to AI replacing the "human experience." His comments came in response to a post by The Kobeissi Letter, which noted that Musk would provide AI compute to companies committed to not harming humanity.
The timing is interesting. Lawmakers like Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) have been sounding alarms about AI's impact on jobs, especially after Verizon (VZ) CEO Dan Schulman predicted 20%-30% job cuts as AI adoption grows. DeSantis's praise positions him on the opposite side of that debate, framing Musk's vision as one that enhances rather than replaces human potential.
The SpaceX-Anthropic Deal
The partnership itself is a big deal. SpaceX and Anthropic are joining forces to deliver over 300 megawatts of compute capacity. Musk also announced that xAI, which became part of SpaceX after its acquisition, will dissolve and rebrand as SpaceXAI. He called NVIDIA Corp (NVDA)'s GB300 systems "the best AI computer," so you can bet those will be powering a lot of this infrastructure.
IPOs on the Horizon
Both companies are gearing up for public listings. SpaceX's IPO is confirmed for June, aiming to raise over $75 billion at a $1.75 trillion valuation. But the company has warned investors that its ambitious goals—orbital datacenters, Mars colonies—rely on "unproven technology" and may not be commercially viable. So, caveat emptor.
Anthropic is also eyeing an IPO this year. And in a move that could smooth the path for both, the S&P 500, managed by S&P Global Dow Jones Indices, has proposed rule changes that could allow companies like SpaceX and Anthropic to join the index faster. That would be a big deal for institutional investors who track the index.
So, DeSantis's cheerleading aside, this is a story about big money, big compute, and big ambitions—with a side of political theater.
