Shares of Reddit, Inc. (RDDT) were buzzing higher on Wednesday, up more than 5%, after the company announced it's teaming up with a firm called Nectar Social. The deal is all about letting brands tap into the raw, unfiltered chatter happening across Reddit's thousands of communities.
Think of it this way: companies are desperate to know what people really think about their products, beyond the polished ads and sponsored posts. Reddit, with its famously opinionated and niche communities, is a goldmine for that kind of authentic insight. Now, through this partnership, Nectar Social gets to plug directly into Reddit's Data API. That means Nectar can suck up all that real-time discussion data and serve it to its corporate clients in a neat, unified dashboard.
Nectar's whole thing is being an AI-powered platform for social commerce. It already aggregates data from places like Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube, and X. Adding Reddit to the mix gives brands a single pane of glass to see what's being said about them across the entire digital ecosystem. They can track conversations, spot emerging trends, and see how sentiment is shifting—all stuff that marketing and product teams crave.
"This partnership gives our customers the ability to understand in real-time what is being said about their brand, identify the right moments to engage, and build the kind of authentic social proof that drives both discovery and conversion," said Misbah Uraizee, CEO and co-founder of Nectar Social.
The key word there is "authentic." That's the magic sauce Reddit is seen to provide. In a world where AI is reshaping how we search for and evaluate stuff to buy, the unvarnished opinions from real people in dedicated forums carry a lot of weight. It's a different kind of signal than what you get from other social platforms.
"What sets Reddit apart is the depth and authenticity of its conversations," echoed Farah Uraizee, CTO and co-founder of Nectar Social. "Brands need to understand what people are saying and when it matters, not just that they are talking."
So, for Reddit, this isn't just another tech partnership. It's a move that solidifies its position as a serious player in the enterprise data and analytics game. The company has been talking up its potential as a treasure trove for AI training and consumer insights since its IPO. Deals like this one with Nectar are a concrete way to monetize that treasure trove, showing Wall Street that there's real business value in all those threads about gaming rigs, skincare routines, and stock picks.
By the numbers: Reddit shares were trading higher by 5.18% to $148.52 at last check on Wednesday.
