AerCap Holdings (AER) signed lease agreements Tuesday that will add five Boeing aircraft to FlySafair's fleet over the next few years, marking a substantial upgrade for the South African carrier.
The deal includes three new Boeing 737 MAX 8 jets scheduled for delivery starting in the first quarter of 2028. On top of that, two Boeing 737-800NG aircraft will join FlySafair's operations beginning in the third quarter of 2026.
Anbessie Yitbarek, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Africa at Boeing Commercial Airplanes, framed the move as a pivotal moment for the airline. "The addition of three 737 MAX airplanes marks a significant step in FlySafair's fleet modernization journey," he said, noting that FlySafair will join more than 80 airlines worldwide operating the 737 MAX.
